TRACING AND TREATING GLAUCOMA Glaucoma, increased pressure within the eye, may destroy the optic nerve, cause the eye to enlarge and crush the cells of the retina. Glaucoma can make a dog go blind in just a few days if the pressure is very high. Early detection of elevated pressure is the only way to control glaucoma. Normal eye pressure for a dog or a cat is 10-20 mmHg. A pressure over 25 mmHg is considered glaucoma. Glaucoma symptoms are subtle and can mimic other eye diseases. Immediate IOP measurement should be a part of the routine for dogs and cats with dilated pupils, enlargement of the eye, cloudiness within the cornea, excessive tearing, visual impairment or any head or eye trauma. Even red eyes with no obvious cause call for the IOP checkup, especially if the breed is predisposed to glaucoma. Regular use of the TonoVet® tonometer can make a significant difference in saving a pet’s vision.

Investment First of all because tonometry is the only way to detect glaucoma early and allows you to offer the right treatment and service for your client, like any other service which helps your customers’ pets, this offers true value to your practice. In addition to providing best medical practice, the TonoVet® also opens up a new income stream for your surgery.
