The AlgerBrush II is a battery powered, handheld, low torque motorised burr. It has been designed to remove foreign bodies from the cornea or sclera of patients.
The burr in this rotary instrument is used as a “brush” rather than a drill and the foreign bodies are thus “brushed” from the eye leaving a smooth surface, which in turn heals much faster than with other instruments that could be used for this purpose.
According to the paper “Veterinary Ophthalmology” ((2013) 16, 2, 83-88), it has been successfully used to treat spontaneous corneal epithelial defects (SCCEDs) in dogs in combination with a bandage contact lens.
The AlgerBrush was designed for the specific purpose of removing these rust rings from the eyes of patients.
